    Festival of Stakes Picks

Good day and thanks for stopping by for a very special edition of the “Dog Blog”

This Saturday is the biggest day of the year in greyhound racing - It’s the finals of the Festival of the Stakes at Southland Greyhound Park.   This 20 race card has 18 stakes races and features many of the finest active racing greyhounds.

The racing should be outstanding ... the mutuel pools should be strong ... so without further ado - let’s take an in depth look at five of the championship finals on the Southland Twilight card.

Race #3 - 330 Yard Course - Super Sprint Championship

This race features the finest one turn sprinter in the country in the #7 Craigie Renegade.  This son of KC And All and Toni Works was the only greyhound to record three wins during the qualification races.  If this red male can break sharp, he should be extremely tough to catch.  I will use the #1 WW Flash Boy, #2 Kiowa Boyd Trip, and the #5 Craigie Hey You behind Renegade in all my trifectas and superfectas.

Race #5 - 583 Yard Course - Arkansas Bred Juvenile

This is an extremely competitive race.  I think that five of the eight greyhounds have a decent chance to be donning the winning stakes blanket.

I am going to box the #2 Mj Max Freeze, #3 Arkans Bd Natal, and the #4 Imark Ms Kitty in quinelas and box exactas.  I think these three greyhounds have the best combination of early speed and post position in their favor.   Both Freeze and Natal won three of their four qualification races.

Race #7 -  583 Yard Course -  Arkansas Bred Championship

I am going to key the #8 Bar Gin in quinielas and box exactas.  Although Gin might not be the fastest greyhound in this field, he is extremely well posted today.  All of the greyhounds in the 4 thru 7 boxes all want the rail very badly.  Bar Gin, who won the Southland Derby earlier in the year, should have lots of room to rush to the turn.

I will use the #1 Cbj Count Down, #4 Oaks Maddy, and the # 7 Rigged system with the #8 in my wagers.

    Race #9 - 583 Yard Course - Juvenile Championship

This is a loaded race with eight fantastic young greyhounds competing .  All of these greyhounds could easily be in many stakes finals during their career.

I will key the #1 Tmc’s Zoomba on top in trifectas and superfectas.  This daughter of Craigie Whistler and Tmc’s Moneymaker comes into the final in raging form.  In her last race, this brindle female broke on top, showed good early speed, and crushed her foes by 12 lengths.   Zoomba loves the red blanket and should be very tough to beat at what figures to be a short price.

I will use the #2 Gonz Pancho, #3 Tnt Pachinko, and the #4 Flying Rocky behind the red blanket in all my exotic wagers.

Race #19 - 583  Yard Course - Darby Henry Sprint Championship

The last stakes race of the night features the best sprinting greyhound in the United States in the #7 Flying Wolf Pack.  After winning an amazing ten races in a row in August and September, this son of Flying Lone Wolf and Pj Aces Up finally had his win streak snapped last time by a couple of inches.  If the pride of the Lester Raines Kennel can break sharply and show his great early speed, he should be a chalk players delight.

I will use the #3 Pay Tree It and the #8 Classy Wolverine under the “Big Bad Wolf” in my trifecta wagers.

I would like to wish all the greyhounds and their connections the best of racing luck on this fantastic day of greyhound racing from Southland Greyhound Park.

The Festival of the Stakes - the best card of the year for greyhound racing fans!!

    Thursday Picks 8-31-17

Good day and thanks for stopping by the blog. In this article, I will be taking a closer look at three races on the Thursday August 31 Southland Twilight Card.

Race #1 - I really like the chances of the #1 VJ Midnight in this race. This 78 pounder comes into this race off two good efforts (two third place finishes) and has run some very good races in the past with the red blanket on. If this son of Dragon Fire and VJ Im An Angel can break sharply, he should have an excellent chance of winning this contest.
I will be using the #2 Fiesta Duracell (well posted today), #6 Rush Runner, and the #8 Darrelle Revis (in good form) with Midnight in all my exotic wagers.

Race #7 - I will be keying a talented youngster in the #1 Hl's Rocky in today’s seventh race. In his last race on August 25, this white brindle male went box to wire and scored an easy seven length win from the same post position. If he breaks on top again today, Rocky might just "KO" the opposition.
I will be using the #2 Forchinit and the #3 AMF Pushover (two strong closers) behind my key selection in trifectas and superfectas.

Race #9 - I will be keying the #5 Diana Taurasi to close up and run second or third in my exotic wagers. Prior to a couple of fifth place finishes, this 62 pounder had run in the trifecta in four straight races. Taurasi easily looks like the most reliable late speed greyhound in this contest.
The greyhounds I will use in the win spot over the five will be the #2 Yolo Becky, #6 Muhweeya, and the #8 Elbow Grease.

    Thursday Picks 8-24-17

Good day and thanks for checking in on this edition of the blog. I will be looking at three races taking place on the Thursday August 24 Twilight Card from Southland Greyhound Park.

Race #4 - I will be keying the #1 Silver Footed on top in all my wagers. This son of Soprano Drive and World Of My Own runs his best races with a red blanket on and should have an excellent chance to go box to wire today. I will be using the #2 Crook, #5 Biodiesel, and the #6 VJ Move On Up behind Silver Footed in my exacta and trifecta wagers.

Race #5 - This race features the best 334 Yard sprinters on the Southland grounds. I will be using the #8 DS Brass in the second and third positions in some trifecta wagers. This red male is a wide runner who tries hard all the time and has run in the superfecta in 32 of his 36 starts this year. I will be using the #2 Slatex Deliah (first time over the course), #6 Craigie Renegade, and the #7 Craigie Hey You over DS Brass in my exotic wagers.

Race #14 - I will be keying a very talented young pup in the #9 PJ Dark Angel in this race. In his maiden win on Friday, this brindle male cleared second and went on to an easy nine length tally. His time was the fastest of the entire twilight card meaning that this youngster is very fast when things go right for him. I will be using the #5 Deputy Festus, #6 WW Gold Rush, and the #7 PJS Settin Fires behind Dark Angel in my trifectas and superfectas.

    Saturday Pick's 8-12-2017

Good day and thanks for checking in on this edition of Jason’s Dog Blog.

In today’s piece, we will be looking at two races taking place on the afternoon card at Southland Greyhound Park this Saturday.

Race #3 - I will be keying the #7 Amf Unopened in the second and third place spots in my trifecta wagers. If this son of Bd’s Grayson and Amf Open Space can drop down to the rail and avoid trouble in the escape turn, I think he has an excellent chance to use his good late speed to “hit the board”.

I will be using the #2 Oshkosh Namba (an intriguing first time starter) , #5 Cragie Jazmina, and the #6 Safe Harbour over my key selection in my trifecta wagers.

Race #18 - I will be keying one of my favorite greyhounds at Southland in the #1 Cash Cow. This daughter of Kc And All and World Of My Own is one of my favorites for one simple reason - she consistently runs good races - yet rarely gets bet down to favoritism. In her last race, this 57-pounder went right to the front and scored and paid over $10 to win. If Cash can break sharp and go to the front, I would expect her to run in the quiniela once again.

I will be using the #2 VJ Midnight, #5 Kiowa Boyd Trip, #6 Atascocita Kurly, and the #7 Fuzzys Nikki Cox with my key selection in quinielas and box exactas.

    Saturday Picks 8-4-17

Good day and thanks for stopping by the “return edition” of Jason’s Dog Blog.

In this article I will handicapping greyhound betting at three races from Southland Greyhound Park.  All these races will be taking place on the Saturday Matinee card.

Race #8 - I will be keying the #1 PJS Settin Fires in quinielas and box exactas.  After drawing a series of middle boxes to begin her racing career, this red female should appreciate drawing the rail in this maiden contest.  Although this 60-pounder has very little early speed, I think she will find lots of room today to use her good late speed and finish in the exacta. I will be using the #3 Poppy Episode, #4 Safe Harbour,  #7 Fly Killer Whale, and the #8 Win Biglee with PJS Settin Fires.   I will press the 1-7 combination as Killer Whale figures to be a solid favorite.

Race #10 - I will be keying an old class greyhound in the #1 Kiss My Dust.   I think this daughter of Kc And All and Angel Tree has a good chance to rebound off a dreadful trip in her last start.   In that race, this early speedster broke a step slow, had no room early and finished a dismal last.  With a sharp break on Saturday, I think Kiss My Dust has a chance to rebound at a decent price. I will be using the #2 XKT Dave Turin, #3 Flying Tequila, #7 Barts Bold Ruler, and the #8 Ozzy Pawsborne with my key greyhound in quinielas.

Race #18 - I really like the #1 Crossfire Clyde in the finale on Southland’s afternoon card.  Crossfire Clyde has been facing much better greyhounds in his last few starts and shifts over to the middle distance course.  Earlier in his career, Clyde was a stakes winner at Tri-State over their middle distance course.  If this son of Oshkosh Slammer and Gogo Stitches can clear close to the pace, he should be ultra tough in this contest. I will be keying the #1 over the #3 Dancewithdadevil, #5 Kilo Daffy Duck, and the #8 WW’sAlice in trifectas.  I think the #7 Sawgus could be a vulnerable favorite in this race.

Four Races on the Thursday Card at Southland Greyhound Park

southland parkGood day and thanks for checking in on this blog entry. In this article, I will be offering some quick thoughts and ideas on four races taking place on Thursday’s card from Southland Greyhound Park.

The races will be taking place over Southland’s 583-yard course and the 660-yard course.

Race #4 – Two greyhounds (#1 CBJ Tricks and #8 T’s Spectraflame) who have good early speed and are well posted will be my key greyhounds in this race. I will be using the #5 Thrill Deal and the #6 Game Token with Tricks and Spectraflame in quinielas and box exactas.

Race #6 – After two races where he drew poor post positions, the #1 White Night will be wearing his favorite red blanket in this race. The last two times this white and red male has drawn inside post positions, he has won both of his Grade AA races. I will be keying Night with the #4 Natural High, #5 CBJ Kitkat, and the #7 Mega Rice in all exotic wagers.
