Arizona Downs

Arizona Downs is a horse-racing track in Prescott Valley, Arizona, United States. It opened in 1959, at the State Route 89A.

History

Arizona Downs, originally called Yavapai Downs, is located in Prescott Valley, Arizona. It both hosts thoroughbred and quarter horse racing. The last regular races were conducted in 2010 but resumed a shortened season of live racing in 2019.

Yavapai Downs was built due to the original track, named Prescott Downs (was built on the old Rodeo Grounds in Prescott in 1959) had no room for expansion. It held race meets from 2000 to 2010 and declared bankruptcy in 2011. It still went to other bankruptcy until J&J Empire purchased it worth $3.22 million in 2018. It has expanded its footprint in Arizona by opening off track betting locations in Flagstaff, Pinetop Lake Havasu City, and two OTB sites in Phoenix, which opened last May 24, 2019.
