Bellewstown Racecourse

Bellewstown Racecourse is a horse-racing track in Co. Meath, Ireland, United Kingdom. It opened in 1726, at Collierstown

History

Founded in 1726, situated on the Hill of Crockafotha in Co Meath, at the foot of the Mourne mountains 11km south of Drogheda on the east coast of Ireland, 37km north of Dublin, and serviced by the nearest train station, Gormanstown, and buses from Drogheda and the surrounding areas to the track itself. It hosts races on five occasions every summer, flat racing and national hunt races over hurdles.

Track Details

The track for flat races is quite a sharp, left-handed oval of about nine furlongs, with the final two furlongs having a slight uphill gradient to the line. Low numbers have a slight edge in races at five furlongs and a mile. It demands a balanced runner with plenty of paces. Hence, there are undulations, cambers, road crossings, and tight turns contributing to unbalancing runners.

On the other hand, the track for National Hunt is also a sharp, undulating left-handed racetrack around nine furlongs in extent, with an uphill finish of around three furlongs, tends to suit handy, nippy horses. There are five hurdles to a circuit, with no races staged over fences. The course is positioned on high ground, and going on the firm side is usual for the three-day fixture held in early July.

The racetrack offers a “Bellewstown Belter Package” that can be availed through booking because it is limited to up to 400 customers only. It costs €20, including a ticket for entrance to the racing enclosure, a race card, a free €5 matching bet, and a free pint. The track features a self-service dining room, snack bar, and many bars. There are also parking facilities for disabled badge holders and specialist toilet facilities on course.
