Columbus Exposition & Racing

Columbus Exposition & Racing is a horse-racing track in Columbus, Nebraska, United States. It opened in 1942, at the Platte County Fairgrounds in Columbus.

History

A thoroughbred track opened on July 27, 1942, situated at the Platte County Fairgrounds in Columbus, 90 miles northwest of Lincoln, and open year-round for Simulcasting.

The main track is a 5/8 mile oval, with a stretch length of 720 ft. and the chute is six and one-half furlongs. It has an open-air grandstand that can accommodate 4,000 seats, with a mezzanine floor and convenient restroom facilities on both levels. By 1983, an elevator was installed in the grandstand and new dining room and offices on the ground level. In 1953, a Behlen-type multi-purpose building was erected, then a 4-H Clubroom was also added to the Behlen Barn in 1984.

Track Details

The stable area can house up to1000 horses and has a gigantic parking space. It also has an administration building that is heated and air-conditioned, utilized for the offices during the Fair and Races. There are also a trailer park and bathhouse. The trailers are owned by people connected with the races, fairs, and shows (craft, antique, and livestock shows).
