History

A half-mile thoroughbred racing track in Ferndale, California, located at 9712, 1250 5th St, Ferndale, CA 95536, United States, in the timber and dairy country of California’s far north coast. It is inside the California Fair circuit with other tracks such as Pleasanton, Sacramento, and Fresno. It has been the site of the Humboldt County Fair since 1896, one of the top fairs in California. It holds a six-day meet in the middle of August, with the C.J. Hindley Humboldt County Marathon Handicap taking top billing. Eight action-packed days are racing mules, thoroughbred, quarter horse, appaloosa, and Arabian horses.

Track Details

Its track is tight with tough corners, a half-mile track popular for the presence of several unbanked turns that produce plenty of thrills, as jockeys and horses are not used to the tight bullring racing it offers, and they sometimes encounter trouble trying to negotiate the turns.

Its half-mile track has two chutes, 5/8 mile and 7/8 mile, with the distance from the last turn to finish being 530 feet. The stable can accommodate 258 permanent and 200 portables, while the grandstand seating capacity is 1,800.
