Hippodrome de la Touche
Hippodrome de la Touche is a horse-racing track in Craon, Mayenne, France. It opened in 1848, at Hip des Touches.
History
The Hippodrome de la Touche or Craon in English is a multidisciplinary racecourse that hosts Flat racing, steeplechasing, and harness racing. It is located in the Pays de la Loire region, North West of France at Craon, on the meadow of La Touche and close to the river Oudon, and inaugurated in 1848. It is acknowledged in France as the temple of the horse and renowned for its cross-country, which takes place on a very long distance of 6,000m.
Track Details
The course hosts three listed races annually, all in September. First is the Grand Prix de la Ville de Craon-Meyenne, which is run over 2400 meters for 3-year-olds and upwards. Also, the Criterium de l’Ouest is run over 1650 meters for 2-year-olds. Lastly, the Prix du Point du Jour is contested over 1650 meters for 3-year-olds and upwards.
The site covers 65 hectares, and the track has a circumference of 1281 meters with a run-in of 300 meters and right-handed rail. It has a turf track for trotting races that measures 1,281m with 300m straight line, and a turf track for flat and jump races, measuring 1,850 m in length and 400m straight line with several courses for cross-country races.
The grandstand can accommodate 20,000 seats. It also offers a variety of restaurants (La Cantine), either standing, brasserie, or snack bar with 450 seats and televisions, and the parking space has a capacity of 5,000 cars. It also offers other services such as PMH counters and public telephone.
It is open from the end of August to the end of September. It costs €6 for each entrance ticket, free for those under 18 years old, and offers Package groups that costs €4 for each in a group with minimum members of 15 people.
