It was opened in 1985 with its original name as Tri-State Greyhound Park. It also originally focused on greyhound racing before the arrival of the table games and Tri-State Casino and Resort. It is situated at the 1 Greyhound Drive Cross Lanes, Nitro, West Virginia, USA, 14 miles west of Charleston and 36 miles east of Huntington. By the year 1990, the establishment was sold to Hartman & Tyner. The property was expanded, adding another 57,000 square-foot and gaming facilities in 2002. As a result, the name was revised into Tri-State Racing & Gaming Center in the same year. It continued to prosper until 2008, for the addition of table gaming and expansion for the 150-room luxury hotel accommodations. Then in 2010, they renamed the facility again into its current name, Mardi Gras Casino & Resort. It is currently owned by Delaware North, which was sold to them by Hartman & Tyner in March 2018.
The facility’s theme is a Mardi Grass, which features a year-round schedule of live greyhound races, off-track betting for greyhound and horse racing, table games, and slot machines. It currently has a large poker room, and its table games have blackjack, roulette, craps, three card poker, Mississippi stud, Crisscross Poker, four card poker, Double-Up Blackjack, Double Draw Poker, Big 6, Let It Ride, and sic bo. They also offer a restaurant named Grill at First Turn that serves succulent steak or seafood and a 150-room luxury hotel.
