Thurles Racecourse
Thurles Racecourse is a horse-racing track in County Tipperary, Munster, Ireland. It opened in 1732, at Thurles.
History
Racing commenced at the Thurles in 1732. It is located in the town of Thurles, County Tipperary, Ireland. Situated 1 mile west of Thurles town and 5 miles west of the N8 (Dublin / Cork), on the road to Limerick, Shannon and Galway.
The only privately owned racecourse in the country and acknowledged as a tough National Hunt track that hosts races throughout the winter no matter the weather conditions. It became well-known for its free-draining turf that is quite resistant to the inclemency of the cold season.
It stages National Hunt racing including the Kinloch Brae Chase (late January or early February); Anaglog’s Daughter Mares Novice Chase (every January); The Michael Purcell Memorial Novice Hurdle (February or March); The Native Upmanship Novice Chase (March); and John Meagher Memorial Chase (November).
