Vaal Racecourse
Vaal Racecourse is a horse-racing track in south of Johannesburg, South Africa. It opened in 1946, at the heart of the Vaal Triangle.
History
It was in 1944 when Vaal Racecourse had its original license. However, proceedings were ceased due to objections related to inadequate controls from the Jockey Club of South Africa. It was only in February 1946 when the racecourse was successfully registered, and the Vaal Racing Club was founded shortly after. It is situated in the heart of the Vaal Triangle, south of Johannesburg in South Africa, owned by Phumelela Gaming and Leisure, Ltd (they are responsible for racing in the Free State, Northern Cape, Eastern Cape, and Gauteng).
The track is the longest in the country and home to the 750,000-rand Grand Heritage. It is also known for its friendly atmosphere and slightly more countrified.
Track Details
The running direction of the track is counterclockwise. The sand track measures 2 800 meters oval and 1 000 meters straight course. Beyond the 1 000 meters clockwise around the turn with a 1 000meter run-in. The Turf track is 3,000 meters in circumference oval and 1 600 meters straight course. Beyond 1 600 meters clockwise around the turn with a 1 000 meter run-in.
Aside from horse racing, it also hosts conference and events venues, with six venues offering seating between 50 and 360 guests.
