Keeneland Race Picks

The 2021 Queen Elizabeth

The Queen Elizabeth Grade 1 at the Keeneland Fall meet almost always draws a strong field with a few international stars or potential stars. This year is no exception. Willaim Haggas sends one, Aidan O’ Brien and son Donnacha send one each, Roger Attfield sends one from Canada and a few of our usual suspects are in there as well. As hot as Brad Cox is and has been, and as deadly as he can be in Kentucky, I just can’t get to Burning Ambition. While she is bred, and also improving, this group [...]

The 2021 Grade 1 Keeneland Turf Mile

We love Keeneland in the spring with the two-year-olds and the Kentucky Derby looming. We love it in the fall with the Breeders’ Cup on the horizon. Spring, fall, what is the difference, we love Keeneland. The Keeneland Turf Mile looks like a race I may go after. I think they have the right horse in the right spot, and I am optimistic the price will be fair. There is a full field of 13 to go through but we won’t ever complain about a race that draws plenty of horses. Front Run the [...]

Key Horse Races & Expert Handicapper Bets – October 9, 2021

Joe Hirsch Turf Classic Stakes - Race 7 at Belmont - Post Time 3:47PM Eastern Four horses are pretty much inseparable in terms of probability to win. They are Arklow, Gufo, Channel Maker and Japan. HOWEVER, if the morning line disparities hold up, both Arklow and Channel Maker will offer superb value as win bets and keys in the exacta as we will try to split the other two (keep them from running first and second). Arklow won this in 2019, off a third in the Bowling Green two before that and a second [...]

Key Horse Races & Expert Handicapper Bets – April 17, 2021

Race 8 at Keeneland - Post Time 4:57 PM Eastern Final Jeopardy (8 to 1 starting odds) and Empty Tomb (5 to 1 starting odds) are the keys to profit here, particularly with morning line favorite South Bend absolutely false (very vulnerable) at 5 to 2. South Bend returns from six months off, running two turns (1 1/16 miles) with no prep, in an allowance race. Although he has run in all stakes races going back to the fall of 2019, the class drop is a big sign this is just a prep for [...]

Key Horse Races & Expert Handicapper Bets – April 3, 2021

Commonwealth Stakes - Race 7 at Keeneland - Post Time 4:24 PM Eastern Hidden Scroll is a standout in my opinion, in spite of opening as the second choice on the morning line at 5 to 2. I just don’t get the 8 to 5 morning line favoritism afforded Flagstaff, who has won just one of his last eight starts going back to the beginning of 2020, and he was only close to winning one of the other seven when beaten a head in September. Furthermore, trainer Sadler just doesn’t seem to know what [...]
