The Sunshine Sprint

The Sunshine Sprint will be run at six furlongs at Gulfstream Park. They drew a field of 7.

Lightening Larry breaks from the rail and is second off the lay-off. He is 3 for 7 at Gulfstream and 3 for 7 at six furlongs. He has speed and can be right on or just off the pace. His trainer is off to a hot start and this guy has a live look to him. With the right kind of trip and ride he can be dangerous under Morelos.

Gatsby is another who can sit or go, and he gets Luis Saez who is a definite plus. He fits class wise and is definitely game. He won this race last year under Saez and has a big shot to repeat.

Unsociable goes first off the Maker claim and he has been winning these types of races with these types of claims for years now. This guy is 5 for 8 lifetime, but all his races have been on the synthetic. Maker will look awfully smart if he wins this one off the claim and first time on the dirt. He can run from on or off the pace, at least on the synthetic and gets Irad who is making all the right moves. Yet another contender.

Legends Can’t Die is the morning line favorite and might go off favored. Although his lone dirt race was as a good as most of these, his two starts without Lasix were not much. I am not sold on him but again he would be no surprise here either.

Legal Deal looks a cut below most of these to me. He hasn’t been that effective against this type and he has had his chances.

Boca Boy ships in from out of town but has been here before. I’ll call him a cut below also.

Cajun Magic has run with some good horses but is off a decent lay off. I think he will need one or two to get going enough to be competitive here.

I can make a legit case for 3 of the 7 starters in here. That is not an ideal position to be in. It could be worse, however. I am going to land on Gatsby. I like him coming back to Gulfstream off the race at Tampa. I like Saez and I like the trip I project him getting. I think there is a good chance this comes down to the trip, ride, and least number of knocks and for me that would be Gatsby.

Santa Anita already cancelled the Saturday card because of the weather. The new cross country pick 5 is similar to the old Stronach 5 but I like it better. Gulfstream early, Santa Anita late works just fine for me. I like the wager and $1 minimum and low take-out. I’ll be looking at that play on Sunday.
