Two-Year old races have always been special at Saratoga. That is the place everyone wants to win with their babies, and many great horses have done just that. This year we are going to focus on a lot of two-year old races, and we will start opening Saturday with The Sanford.
Some people shy away from these races as there is generally less info available to decipher. I think that makes it better. Less is more and sometimes instinct and memory can help you find the edge you are seeking.
I love two-year-olds at Saratoga who already have a win over the track and are running back. Booked fits that bill and has also shown he can rally from off the pace which looks like it should be a help in a race that at least on paper has a fair amount of speed. I like the second start improvement he showed and Santana riding for his former main barn who he has won a lot of races for up here.
The inside draw is not ideal and a small concern but if he avoids getting bottled up, I imagine he will be a handful in the stretch.
A little later on the card I think Abashiri will be very tough in the Belmont Oaks. She won her debut and then chased True Love and Precise, two talented fillies both of which would likely be favored here. She should like the added distance and the barn, one of the sharpest obviously think she will like the firm turf.
Let’s see if we can get both home and start the meet hot right from the start just like the weather.
