The Ohio Derby 2025

The Grade 3 Ohio Derby for three-year olds drew a field of 9 going a mile and an eighth.
I’ll look at the field and see where I land.
Brereton’s Baytown is in poor form and looks overmatched here to me. I don’t see him turning it around in this spot.
Chuck of Gold made a middle move in the slop in The Kentucky Derby even after clipping heels. Prior to that his form was okay despite stringing together three seconds without winning. He has a very live look here especially with how the Triple Crown form has held up.
Capo Luca likes the track and is on a roll. Barn is on fire as well at 42% at the meet. He will have to prove to me he is this good.
McAfee always showed ability to me. He is finally coming around and Johnny V goes to ride him. He improved in blinkers which stay on. Another contender.
Extradition looks a cut below a few of these to me.
Clever Again was a hot horse in The Preakness and was also involved in the stretch melee. He was going backwards at that point, so it was inconsequential to me. He should be the speed here and that is always dangerous and more so if the track is playing that way.
Bohemian Style looks in over his head.
Curvino might scrape up a piece, but I doubt he can win barring something unforeseen.
Master Controller just broke his maiden sprinting and may give Clever Again something to think about and deal with early, but I doubt he can last the whole trip.
I think both McAfee and Chunk of Gold have pretty good chances of beating likely favorite Clever Again. I’ll give a narrow nod to Chunk of Gold who might have a bit of a class edge on McAfee.
