Early Belmont Thoughts and Wagering Strategy Ideas

It certainly appears there will be a great card on Belmont Stakes Day with plenty of wagering opportunities. These are the type days I personally look for with big pools, lots of recreational money in them and classy horses where everyone is all in.

A common mistake I think many players make is going after everything and then some with the same vigor. I do not believe that is good or proper money management. If I am correct and you’d be hard pressed to say I’m not, then I can say it is not the best way to head into the big day. I’ll offer the following:

Whether your bankroll is $10, $100 or $1000 or even $10000 or $100000 thousand for the day managing it properly is critical to long term success, and this is a marathon game and not a sprint.

I always use about 70% of my daily bankroll on my best play or sequence. Yes, that limits what I can do with the other plays but on the upside if my best play, what I like most wins I get paid and not for 50 cents or just one time. I have found over the years big scores which this approach can lead too even without cowboy fishing bombs will erase a lot of losses. The black column will outweigh the red column dollar wise which is what you want.

Those trap days that sucker you into going after everything they offer or every pick 3,4, or 5 won’t help you in the long tun if you fall prey to it. You don’t want to have the bet you like least for $1 and the bet you like most for $1. You want at the minimum 3 more times on the major play or even 5 or 10 if your budget and mental discipline allows.

There are reasons so few win consistently at this skill game. I did for many years and mastering money management is a key and often overlooked fundamental.

I’m happy to answer any questions on this or any other handicapping or wagering question. Just another of the many benefits that come along with AmWager our favorite wagering platform. Lots more coming!
