Pace Play

They say pace makes the race and we have all seen that hold true often enough. There is plenty of speed signed on in The Garland of Roses Saturday at Aqueduct and for me a filly who should be running her best late jumps off the page and says here I am.

Disco Ebo is speed from the rail.

Kant Hurry Love will be stalking in a good spot, but I want someone a bit further back early. She will be a chaser in my opinion.

Self Isolation will be prompting the pace or stalking.

You Look Cold is the one I think will be running best at the end. She does her best racing from off the pace, and I think she gets a perfect set up on Saturday.

Olga Isabel is yet more speed. I think she will be gunning from the jump.

Headland is another who will be close and stalking.

Hot Fudge offers more speed, especially in her more recent races.

You Look Cold could easily be last early and as much as we see pace make the race, we also see the speed of the speed as they say, or someone goes while everyone sits unfold before our eyes often too. That said, I have to call it the way I see it and I think this gets hot and contested. I see You Look Cold getting by everyone late.

One of my favorite angles is what I perceive to be a pace advantage or set up. That can be lone speed, get the jump on the closers, or off the pace into a lot of speed and stalkers. On Saturday I’ll ride the off the pace into the speed angle and hope it works out. I would rather have 7 as opposed to 6 furlongs to work with, but we play the hand we are dealt.

Enjoy the races and let’s get up in time.
