Saturday Where the Turf Meets the Surf

The Breeders’ Cup is in the books. If you want to catch a cool recap and some interesting takeaways you just won’t find, see or hear anywhere else check out ours RIGHT HERE, you’ll probably be glad you did.

We came close to some nice hits, made some mistakes that should have been avoided, but White Abarrio who we loved saved the day and weekend.

Now we’ll move on to the everyday racing we love all year long. On Saturday we are heading out west to Del Mar for the one-mile Kathryn Crosby on the turf. The Del Mar turf tends to be speed friendly at the on set of this fall meet as it is hard and firm but of course we like a closer. What can you do there are always exceptions, this is horse racing, and you must play it like you see it.

We’ll do a quick rundown of the field.

Linda’ Gift from the rail looks like she will get a nice cozy inside stalking trip here. She will have to continue to improve to have any shot at the win but with Richard Mandella calling the shots that is possible.

Nadette finishes good and should be running at the end, but I think someone will be running faster.

Very Scary should be stalking for a while but appears to be in deep water.

I have been looking for a big race from Turnerloose for a while and caught her at the Fair Grounds on the dirt way back when. She has speed and I won’t be surprised if she runs big and I also don’t believe she “needs” the lead, but I just like someone more.

I like Dolce Zel going first time for Phil D’Amato and Flavien Prat. She is proven fresh, can finish, has a class edge, gets a nice set up, and I believe she can stay close enough to not have too much to do. She looks to be sitting on a big race fresh.

Ganadora is another who figures to be on or close to the pace. I don’t think she can out finish these.

Free and Humble looks a cut below some of these.

Lucky For You can be dangerous at times and can run. I don’t like her set up in here. That said she could be the fastest of these early and we know what can happen when that type clears.

Yerwantthere should be coming late but I don’t think she will be coming fast enough.

I have to play it like I see it with Dolce Zel being tough to beat. We’ll see what happens.

We hope you enjoyed all the Breeders’ Cup coverage, interviews, and behind the scenes footage AmWager and Past the Wire brought you. You can check it all out here and we think you’ll still find it well worth it!
